Welcome to the website of the Nova Scotia Planning Directors Association.

The Nova Scotia Planning Directors Association (NSPDA) was created in 1996 through the combined efforts of the provincial government and land use planners from municipalities across the province. Since its inception, this not-for-profit organization has been working hard to achieve its mandate of providing opportunities for municipal decision makers from all across the province to learn more about land use planning and how it can help build communities.

A key component of our efforts to spread the word about planning is the NSPDA’s annual spring conference which is held each year in Halifax. Designed to provide a forum where municipal politicians, committee members, planners, developers, consultants, and other stakeholders can come together to learn about and discuss each other’s experiences with relevant and current planning issues. The NSPDA is proud of its track record in offering a professional quality and affordable conference that consistently brings together over 100 delegates.

In addition to hosting the annual spring conference, the NSPDA also serves as a professional organization that allows Planning Directors from throughout Nova Scotia to come together to discuss pertinent planning issues, provincial planning policy, and learn from each other’s experiences. The NSPDA is dependent on the volunteer efforts of Planning Directors from around the province and the support of their employers who graciously donate their employee’s time. The NSDPA is also made possible by the generous support of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations.
